Blending tradition with innovation, celebrate the fusion of Chinese and Western music
The annual cultural extravaganza, 2025 DUNHUANG GALA, will take place on February 9 at the Melbourne Recital Centre. This grand event, featuring outstanding young musicians, dancers and students from China and Australia, promises to deliver a captivating fusion of Eastern and Western arts.

Jointly presented by Ausfeng Events and the Australia Dunhuang Arts Academy, the gala is supported by prominent artistic groups such as the Melbourne Youth Chinese Orchestra and ENSEMBLE M Professional Wind Chamber. Under the theme “New Year in Harmony, East Meets West in Art,” the event will showcase diverse art forms, including music, dance, and drama, celebrating the beauty of cultural fusion. According to the organizers, the gala aims not only to bring festive greetings to the local Chinese community but also to strengthen cultural exchange and collaboration between China and Australia.
The performance will be divided into two parts. The first half, centered around traditional Chinese culture, will feature performances combining Chinese drums, classical dance, and guzheng with traditional percussion instruments, offering a rich and immersive experience of Eastern artistry. In the second half, Western classical art will take center stage, with symphonies, chamber music, and ballet performances that highlight the elegance and passion of Western culture. Notably, the event will also present innovative performances where Eastern and Western instruments will be played together, symbolizing the harmonious blend of two cultural traditions.
